Gala Games (GALA): Blockchain-Powered Gaming at Its Finest

Even as the crypto market continues its slump, the GALA token recorded a price jump up by 70% on Jan 9, 2023, upon the Gala Games’ announcement of a major partnership with Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) and Mark Wahlberg.

You might be wondering, why are Hollywood heavyweights investing in this crypto gaming token over larger gaming tokens like The Sandbox (SAND) and Decentraland (MANA)? Let's dive in to find out more.

What Is Gala Games?

Gala Games is a revolutionary blockchain gaming platform that integrates NFT functionality into fun games that players actually want to play. It was founded in 2019 by Eric Schiermeyer, the co-founder of Zynga, an established online and mobile games company, Michael McCarthy, who also serves as the Art Director at Zynga to produce popular games like Farmville and Zynga Poker, and Wright Thurston, one of the first major crypto miners and a serial blockchain entrepreneur.

Schiermeyer, McCarthy, and Thurston launched Gala Games in a bid to develop an ecosystem of blockchain games in which players can experience new-age gaming while having the opportunity to earn crypto and own NFTs in the process. And while most play-to-earn blockchain games are accused of being boring and mechanical as they favor the earning aspect over the fun of gaming, Gala Games aims to create exciting games for avid gamers.

Beyond gaming, Gala Games has also extended its reach into the music and film industries with features such as Listen and Earn as well as Watch and Earn. Through such media engagement, users can accumulate tokens and NFTs. With over 1.3 million monthly active users and 26,000 NFTs already sold, Gala Games provides the best entertainment experience for users.

How Gala Games Works

In Gala Games, users actually have control over not just the items that they own, but also the entire Gala network through its decentralized node system, the Gala Game Nodes, on its L1 blockchain, Project GYRI. There are four types of Gala Nodes: Founder’s Nodes, Game Nodes, Player Nodes and Film Nodes.

Founder’s Nodes are the backbone of the Gala Games ecosystem, contributing directly to the development and direction of the platform through the ability to vote. Game Nodes execute tasks related to the platform games to ensure the games function properly. Player Nodes serve as decentralized music players to let users listen to their NFTs, while Film Nodes play films for users to watch.

On the Gala Games website, you can pick any game you like and begin playing immediately after setting up an account. Unlike traditional video game streaming platforms, which can charge exorbitant prices for games, games on the Gala Games network are free, though you have to pay for the associated gas fees. All you need is a computer and Internet connection to access the games built on the blockchain through various DApps.

As of this writing (Jan 11, 2023), Gala Games offers three games that users can start playing — Spider Tanks, Town Star and Superior. The remaining 12 games on the platform are still in development.

Spider Tanks: In this PvP brawler developed by renowned Netherlands game manufacturer GAMEDIA, players take their pick from various tank bodies and weapons, and battle with others in different arenas. Spider Tanks is filled with various play-to-earn mechanics where weapons, war tanks and more can be purchased and traded.

Town Star: The flagship game of Gala Games, Town Star is a town-building game modeled after Zynga’s popular hit, Farmville. Gamers around the world compete to build the most productive town, with winners announced every week. Top builders win valuable NFTs, which can be traded on the platform for profit.

Superior: In Superior, players team up to battle against superheroes-turned-villains in a third-person shooting game.

Gala Games also has an NFT store where players can buy and trade their NFTs or in-game assets. These items are sorted into six rarity classes, ranging from Common (least rare) to Ancient (most rare). These NFTs and in-game assets can be bought using the GALA token or any major crypto. Gala Games has partnered with well-known crypto payment gateway CoinPayments to simplify transactions on its platforms.

Key Features of Gala Games

Superb User Experience

Although blockchain games are relatively new, Gala Games is changing the way blockchain games are designed. Most play-to-earn games have repetitive gameplay to make it easy for gamers to earn through gaming. Although this may initially draw more users to the platforms, hardcore gamers who enjoy games for the fun they bring may shun away from such experiences, dampening the impact on the gaming community. Gala Games is changing this by prioritizing user experience because they believe it’s more important for users to enjoy themselves than to focus on emphasizing the various technical aspects of blockchain.

User Empowerment

Users are rewarded handsomely for their time and effort on the Gala Games platform. Gamers have true ownership of their game assets in the form of NFTs, music listeners own a copy of the song they listen to, and film viewers own a copy of their favorite film. They also get to earn crypto from engaging in the things they enjoy, whether it be gaming, listening to music, or watching a film. Moreover, they get to influence the development of the Gala Games ecosystem and watch it grow the way they want through the operation of decentralized nodes.

Solid Community Support

Gala Games is backed by a strong community of gamers. The team carefully listens to feedback given by the community and implements changes accordingly. By doing so, the Gala team is able to design games that are likely to garner high levels of public acceptance.

What Is GALA?

The native token of the Gala Games ecosystem, GALA, is an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain. It doubles as a utility and governance token, and has several use cases across the network. It is the in-game currency that serves as a payment for NFTs and licenses for Gala Nodes. It is also used to incentivize Founder’s Node Operators who receive GALA from daily distributions.

GALA has a maximum supply of 50 billion, with a circulating supply of about 7.54 billion. The distribution of GALA is halved yearly each July, with 8,561,643 GALA tokens being distributed daily starting from July 2022 to 2023. From July 2023, GALA daily distribution will be halved to 4,280,822. The distribution of GALA tokens is split equally between the Founder’s Nodes and the Gala Games Conservatorship.

Gala Games Price Prediction

GALA was listed in major price aggregation portals in September 2020 at around $0.002 and stayed around that level for a whole year before starting to see a rise from September 2021. By Nov 26, 2021, the token had shot to its highest price to date at $0.82. It fell rapidly from its all-time high, however, and by Jan 23, 2022, GALA was priced at $0.18.

GALA briefly rose to $0.38 on Feb 9, 2022, but was unable to stay at this price. Throughout 2022, GALA’s price followed the trend of other cryptos with the advent of the market price, steadily falling to $0.016 by the year end. From early January 2023, GALA started seeing a mini rally. As of the time of writing (Jan 11, 2022), it trades at $0.04.

Price prediction experts all have a positive outlook for GALA, though their predictions on its growth rate differ. Business2Community anticipates that GALA will rise to a potential high of $0.38 in 2025 and $0.71 in 2030, and even at its lowest point, it will not fall beyond $0.047. Changelly is confident that GALA will reach $1 based on its historical peak at $0.82. However, it predicts rather slow growth for GALA with its price reaching $0.09 in 2025 and $0.57 in 2030.

Is GALA a Good Investment?

Experts in the crypto industry are bullish on the GALA token. Gala Games has a cap on its token supply, meaning that GALA’s price will only appreciate as demand grows.

Its existing games show that they are made with the users in mind, appealing to mainstream gamers and thereby reaching the 3.09 billion active gamers worldwide. And with 12 more games in the works, Gala Games is poised for immense growth and looks to be a promising token to invest in during the dip.

Its partnership with Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg to develop Gala films also underlines its growth from a simple gaming platform to an all-rounded entertainment platform for the masses. While Gala Games does indeed seem to be a good investment, it is imperative to DYOR when it comes to investing in altcoins during a bear market.

Where to Buy GALA

The GALA token can be bought on popular decentralized exchanges like SushiSwap and Uniswap v3, and on top centralized exchanges such as Bybit. Sign up on Bybit to buy GALA tokens as a Spot pair (GALA/USDT) or trade GALA as a USDT Perpetual (GALAUSDT).

Closing Thoughts

Gala Games has had a great start, but it’s still early to predict what the project's future will look like. Of the 15 confirmed games on the platform, only three are available to play so far. However, the platform currently has 1.3 million players in their user base, which isn’t a small number by any means.

Additionally, with its venture into the music and film industries, Gala Games looks set to conquer the entire entertainment world and revolutionize it, reaching billions of users all around the world.
